Sadly, Herb Hahn died 19th January 2019. Many of us in GRA knew Herb or even had the privilege to work, think and learn with him over his many years here in Australia and overseas. He was an important figure in the world of socioanalysis, systems psychodynamics, group relations and social dreaming. A thoughtful, intelligent and considerate man, Herb trained in both child and adult psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Tavistock Clinic and Institute of Psychoanalyis in London.
He worked firstly, in South Africa and later the UK at the Tavistock Centre & Tavistock Institute, the European School of Management, Oxford, Paris & Dusseldorf, at the University of West England where he was a senior visiting fellow, and finally in Australia as an organisational consultant and executive coach. Herb's career ranged through clinical work at the Cassel Hospital and numerous therapeutic communities, leadership of professional organisations, education of therapists and managers, social dreaming matrix host in S.A. and the UK (where he pioneered work in this area). He published widely, lectured at universities and other educational settings, and provided organisational consulting and executive coaching. He was creative and original, developing unique workshops and working for reconciliation in personal and wider fields.
Herb leaves behind his wife Eve Steel, a contributor to socioanalysis in Australia and a foundation member and staunch supporter of GRA, and his 3 adult daughters in the UK and a son in California.
Herb will be missed by many people within GRA and way beyond.
Rest well and 'go with the flow' Herb.
